Essilor announced recently that they bought Vision Direct in the United Kingdom (UK). This means Essilor has strengthened it’s online presence in Europe for the online contact lens market in the UK and Ireland as well as several other European countries which Vision Direct Group Ltd. operates. Essilor already owns several well known online eyeglasses stores which includes EyeBuyDirect, Coastal (Clearly), and FramesDirect. Roy Hessel runs both EyeBuyDirect and Coastal (Clearly).
Vision Direct Group Ltd. mainly sells contact lenses online and has a good amount of revenue around £33 million Euros ($36,300,000 million dollars) currently. It seems that Essilor International will keep the existing management team for Vision Direct Group Ltd. in place but the company will now be able to leverage the resources of it’s parent company for expansion in the European contact len market.
OpticalOwl wonders if the company will acquire other website retailers in contact lenses and eyeglasses market this year? Only time will tell but it seems likely Essilor will continue to acquire and buy online brand as they push into new opportunities.
